Dad 
today we thought about you as it  would have been a day we celebrated your birth. We spent the day with the great grand daughter you could not see while you are here, she has quite the funny laugh and is very full of life. We would have been so excited to have you see her and hold her, maybe you did we do not know. Love Rick

DAD,
Today is your day and as Kim and I agreed, we, in memory of you, we had Spicy Doritos and a cooler. We shared our stories of you here and had some good laughs. We know you are happy now as are we. All our love, Kim and Rick.

Dad,
 All through the last year I have had thoughts of you daily, something would just spark it. You are missed, and this day even more. Today I filled your request to take what was left of you and put it in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We took a ride out to Pine Island (just you and me). I wanted to be with you, alone. I said a prayer and put you out , now what was left of you spread out, I watched as the little bit grew larger and larger and spread. Dad you cannot know how hard it was to let that part of you go, I love you so much, but I know I had no choice but to set my Dad free. I will keep you in me all the rest of my life. Love you and miss you Dad!

P.S. Yes I saw all the seagulls sitting there watching- who knew!

To my dearest Dad,

February 9, 2011 was a beautiful day. The afternoon sun was shining brightly in the clear blue western sky, not to warm and with a gentle breeze. Walking into your room, seeing you lying there, I remarked at how there was a different feeling in the room, one of calmness and gentle peace. Even though you looked different, you still looked strong. Even though you could not speak, you let us know you knew we were there. In the afternoon, I took Mom home for awhile because she needed to rest and during that brief time, Erin sat with you, she wanted to be there, to talk to you of your life, of those you love, she said the Lord’s Prayer for you and then you were gone. Erin called me as you took your last mortal breath, Mom and I already knew and we were on our way to you. You were not alone when you started your journey, Erin, Mom and I said our ‘goodbyes’ to you and then Michael, your guardian angel, came to take you to your heavenly home that afternoon. You are part of his army of angels now, once a soldier always a soldier. A proud, just and honorable soldier……

To a man of honor, strong ethics, a loving heart, a calm voice and strong but gentle hugs that will be remembered forever. To a man of pride, of love of family and country, you protected us and kept us safe. To a man that believed in being good and right and yes, you had a wonderful sense of humor. To a man that left us that day, there is a hole in our hearts so big and the tears still flow. You exist in our being, in our memories, in each breath we take; you will always be there, watching over us, taking care of us, now from a distance.

You were missed long before the moment you started your journey that afternoon, the disease took you from us, but it could never take away our love for you.  So Dad take care and bye for now….
