Charles William Pine was born on October 3, 1915 in Tioga, Grayson, Texas. He died on May 17, 2010 in hopsice in Hughson, California, and is survived by his two children William Pine and Amy Dillion, stepchildren Alice Berg and Buell Howe, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Roseabelle, predeceased him in 2009.
A decorated veteran and bronze star awardee from World War II, Charles returned to California after the war and married his sweetheart Rose in 1954. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, Charles and Rose were devout Southern Baptists and were very active in home mission work, traveling through California, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico to assist in construction projects. They also spent many summers as camp cooks for the Christian Beret camps for developmentally disabled youth. In retirement they enjoyed traveling in their motor home and became a regular part of the “snowbird” set each winter at the Salton Sea slabs.
