Edna Earl Edwards

Edna was born September 7, 1933, to Samuel and Delouie (Moss) Pollard in Dallas, Texas. She was the eldest of three children. Edna married young at the tender age of 15 to Andrew Hunter Sr. in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Soon after they wed, they moved to various towns in the Central Valley of California; eventually settling in Modesto, California. From this union, she was blessed ten years later with her children: Andrew Jr. and Herman, the following year. She later married Burton Edwards and was blessed with her bonus daughter: Princella.

Edna was a talented and hard worker. Her versatility led her to work anywhere from a Field Worker to a Beautician. But she found her home and work family at Gallo Glass, where she retired after 26 years in 1998.

Edna took much pride in being a doting mother, remaining active in both her son’s lives until Andrew’s untimely death in 2005. Edna was a God fearing and devout woman of God who loved to serve. She was a revered and respected mother in her church home at Second Baptist in Modesto, California. for many years, until she relocated to Glendale, Arizona to live with her son Herman in 2005.

Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys in life. She always kept her doors open and had a hand in raising her grandchildren, Tara, DeAngelo and Shameca. Although she did not graduate from high school, she was a huge supporter of education and a forever learner. She encouraged her grandchildren to pursue higher education resulting in Tara receiving her nursing license as an LVN, DeAngelo receiving his Bachelor’s degree and Shameca receiving her Master’s degree. These accomplishments could not have made Edna prouder as she often said you can do anything you put your mind to.

She moved to Fresno, California in 2016 to live with her granddaughter Shameca which allowed her to be closer to her other grandchildren: Morris, Tyshanay and Leilah. Edna was overjoyed with the opportunity to take in all the pleasures that came with watching her great granddaughter Rosie grow up. It truly was a joy that she would often say, brightened her life.

Edna was never a stranger to anyone. She truly was that mother/grandmother to the community and many people considered her as their surrogate mother/grandmother. She would always say what was on her mind and tell it like it is but always with love in her heart. Edna’s greatest love was her family. And her children and grandchildren were proud to call her mom and grandma.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and her son Andrew. She will always be cherished in memories by her son Herman Hunter, daughter Princella Edwards, daughter in law Stephanie Brazil, grandchildren Tara Sears, Leo Hopkins, DeAngelo Hunter, Shameca Hunter, Morris Livingston, Tyshanay Taylor, Leilah Butler, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will truly miss her.
