

Gene was born on September 23, 1937 to parents Oren Turner Dowdy and Julia Mae Atchley Dowdy in Oklahoma. He married the love of his life, Goldie May Gibson, and the two planted their roots in Stanislaus County in 1969. They welcomed four children into the world: Karen, Connie, Donna, and Edward Jr. Gene worked for his uncle at the age of 12 driving tractor for 13 to 16 hours a day. He was a plasterer for over 43 years and loved his job. After he retired, he spent much of his time woodworking and perfecting his craftsmanship.
Gene is survived by his wife Goldie M. Dowdy; children Karen Kathleen Dowdy-Spratling, Connie R. Dowdy-Pharr, Donna K. Dowdy-Osborne, and Edward E. Dowdy, Jr., as well as 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by parents Oren Turner Dowdy and Julia Mae Atchley Dowdy, his four brothers, and seven sisters. Kenneth Dowdy his youngest brother resides in Oklahoma, OK.
A visitation for Gene will be held on July 31, 2024 at 9:00AM in the Lakewood Funeral Home Heritage Chapel, located at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson, CA, along with a funeral service at the same location beginning at 10:00AM. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service, where Gene will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memorial Parks' North Restland Garden. After all services, the family invites all guests to join them at a Celebration of Life luncheon at Lakewood Funeral Home, located in the Hospitality Room.
Gene was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-great Grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all.
