

Flora Ruth Flowers-Anthony was born in Greenbrier, Arkansas on Aug. 20, 1919, and went home to be with the Lord in Modesto, California on Feb. 22, 2013. Flora came to California in l938 at the age of 18 with her husband, Amos and their one year old daughter Betty, during the Dust Bowl era. They arrived in Chico CA and resided there until moving to Modesto in l949. Flora was a volunteer at Scenic General Hospital for 42 years and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a gifted seamstress; she loved spending her time quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren have all been recipients of her knitted and quilted gifts. Flora was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Modesto for many, many years.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband Amos Flowers, and second husband Gerald Anthony, daughter, Betty Armstrong in 2002, parents, Frank and Lela Matthews, 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Glen) Wild and son-in-law, Glen Armstrong, 4 grandsons: Jeffrey Skyles and Jeremy Yunt of San Diego, Alan (Colleen) Armstrong, of Modesto, and Barry Armstrong of Livermore, 1 granddaughter, Susan (Larry) Scott of Weaverville, North Carolina, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is very grateful and thankful for the wonderful loving care given by the staff at Bethel Retirement and Community Hospice. Funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1732 Miller Ave. Modesto CA. 95354, on Thursday, Feb. 28th at 10:00am. followed by the burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave. Hughson, CA 95326.
