Frances "Frankie" June Hughes, born July 28, 1949, in Turlock, Ca, joined the love of her life, Bernard "Barney" L. Hughes on November 16, 2012. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Betty Lou Frances Benz and Jack Carson Benz.
As a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Frankie has left profound and everlasting footprints in the hearts of all those who knew her. No one feels her loss more than her only child, her pride and joy, Christopher Michael Hughes along with wife Lila. Frankie is survived by her three brothers: Roger "Butch" Benz (wife Janie), Jonny Benz (wife Dorothy), Stanley Benz (wife Carol), her three sisters; Debby Mize, Marie "Cissy" Bunnell, Sandy Williams, 16 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews, and 13 great-great nieces and nephews. The love and generosity she shared with them will never be forgotten. She always gave to others, cherishing the memories, never wanting anything in return.
In addition to the devotion she had to her loved ones, Frankie also had many professional accomplishments. At the age of 17, she began her 37 year career with Stanislaus County in the areas of Food Services, Social Work and Foster Care. During that time, she played a fundamental role in bringing The National Eligibility Worker's Association (N.E.W) to Stanislaus County , also serving on its state board. This organization was designed to promote the knowledge of Eligibility Workers and the recognition of their work. Frankie and her husband Barney were active members of the Empire Union School Board. She served on the school board for 16 years until stepping down as an elected member in 1999. She continued to stay involved for many years after by attending monthly meetings.
After retiring from Stanislaus County, she continued to fulfill her life by traveling with her closest girlfriends, cooking holiday feasts for family and friends, and spending time with her son and daughter-in-law. There are truly no words to describe this incredible woman who gave so much of herself to her loved ones, her profession and her community.
