Gudrun A. Solomon Nelms

Gudrun (Solomon) Nelms aka "Goodie", of Modesto, passed away December 6, 2014 peacefully at the age of 99 with her 3 generations at her side. She was survived by her daughter and full time care giver Shirley Solomon aka Janice Baker and son Leroy Solomon from Arizona. She loved her whole family with all her heart. She was loved by her 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

She was born July 2, 1915 in St. John, North Dakota. Her husband and two children moved to California in 1935; where she spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed spending her days in her garden and could grow an entire rose bush from a single rose.

Goodie and her late husband enjoyed riding horses and would often ride them from Modesto to Riverbank to have breakfast. She also loved to go out on the boat and waterski with her friends and family even though she didn't know how to swim very well. For her 80th birthday she wanted to go waterskiing, but her family advised against it. She loved music and going dancing. She would have house parties where her husband played the fiddle and everyone would be dancing. She loved to cook and make clothing for her family. She was a crafty woman and could turn any ordinary thing into something extraordinary. Goodie was able to take one last adventure with her family just shy of her 99th birthday down to Coronado, CA. She was able to go sailing and watch her grandson get married.

She was an amazing, beautiful woman inside and out who had a smile that could light up a room. She was a very classy lady and she knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. She will be missed very much by her many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Ingeborg Kuhl, husband Andy Solomon and her 8 siblings.

Visitation is on Thursday, December 11th, from 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 12th, at 11AM. Both will be in the Heritage Chapel at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson. A Celebration of Life will be held directly after the burial at McHenry Mobile Manor clubhouse at 4125 McHenry Ave, Modesto CA.
