Howard Paul Saabye

Howard Paul Saabye of Modesto CA passed Tuesday January 27th 2026 surrounded by family and loved ones at DMC of Modesto. He was born November 20th 1953 in Stockton CA. Howard was predeceased by his parents Howard Saabye Sr and Peggy Salter-Saabye, his sister Karen Saabye, and his wife Jan Saabye. He was survived by his sister Melody Dias of Ceres, his brother Lars Saabye of Ceres, his three sons Michael ”Shane” Thorington of Bolivar MO, Brandon Thorington of Salem OR, and Suede Thorington of Modesto CA. As well as his 7 grandchildren Michael Thorington, Maci Thorington, Angel Arson, Ethan Thorington, Hannah Thorington, Mia Thorington, and Sophia Thorington, and his great grandchild Ila Ebright-Arson.

Howard graduated from Thomas Downey High School class of 1971. He also graduated from MJC with an Associate of Science and from the Institute of Technology. Howard worked at Tri-Valley Growers and Gallo Glass for over 20 years each.

Jan Saabye was the love of his life and they shared a long loving relationship of 39 years. He also was a dedicated father spending time as a baseball coach, Cub Scout, and Boy Scout leader. And he was a devoted Christian serving as a Deacon at Ceres Christian church as well as on the Missions Committee.

Howards passions were family, missions, movies and sports. He loved the Raiders and the A’s. Those whom he loved the most called him “Papa”.

A committal service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park located at 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA, 95326, on February 18, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Memorial Service will be held afterwards at Ceres Christian Church located at 3502 Roeding Rd Ceres, CA 95307.
