

Joann was born on June 5, 1939, in Oklahoma to Marvin and Maggie Mae Capps. She had two brothers and two sisters. As a child, she moved with her family to California, where they planted lasting roots in the Central Valley. She attended Modesto Junior College before entering the workforce and building a life centered on family and hard work.
In the early 1950s, Joann met the love of her life, David Wilson. They were married for over 40 years until his passing in 1997. Together they welcomed four sons: Billy, Timothy, Mark, and Michael.
Joann worked at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for over 25 years as a benefits coordinator, where she was known for her organization and sharp mind. After retiring, she began a second career as a financial advisor, a position she held for approximately 15 years before fully retiring. She approached her work, as she did everything in her life, with competence, intelligence, and dedication.
Joann preferred the comfort of home and found joy in reading mystery and romance novels and enjoying her morning coffee. She was a devoted Elvis Presley fan and treasured her visit to Graceland, along with the memorabilia she kept in her home. She was also a member of an adventure club and took many memorable trips with her friends, including traveling to Alaska.
She volunteered her time helping elderly community members file their taxes, offering patience and kindness to those who needed it.
Joann is survived by her sons, Mark and Michael Wilson; her brother, James Capps; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Wilson; her parents, Marvin and Maggie Mae Capps; her sons, Billy and Timothy Wilson; her brother, Wiley Capps; and her sisters, Vida Faye Duckworth and Ima Lee Ham.
A funeral service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326, on March 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Heritage Chapel.
