Karen Weaver-Mello passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Karen was born in Modesto, CA. She attended Downey High School, Modesto Junior College and California State University, Stanislaus where she received her bachelors and master’s degrees in education. Karen was an educator for 35 years, starting her career as a seventh and eighth grade Social Studies teacher at Empire School. Karen served as both vice-principal and principal at several Modesto City Schools and retired from Elliot Alternative High School in 2002. Karen was married to David C. Mello. They both enjoyed traveling extensively together and spending time at various sporting events and horse shows to watch their children and grandchildren compete. Karen is survived by her husband David C. Mello, daughter Kimberly Pitigliano and husband Michael, stepson Craig Mello and wife Estelle, stepdaughter Beka Hallum and husband Brandon, two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. A committal service will be held for Karen on Tuesday, December 28th at 11:00 am at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA.
