Kent Arthur Mahoney, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Modesto, CA on February 6th, 2024. Exactly 17 years to the date of his beloved wife’s Sherry’s passing. We’d like to think Kent was dreaming of Sherry when she called him home.
Kent was born on January 7th, 1952 in Lincoln Nebraska. He was the older of two sons born to Jean and Bob Mahoney. Kent attended the University of Nebraska where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business while also pursuing his baseball dream. After college Kent went on to play minor league ball in Florida where he’d later meet his future wife, Sherry Archer.
After marrying the love of his life, Sherry and Kent moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they welcomed their firstborn son, Brett, in 1982. A few years later they moved to the Bay Area where they welcomed their second child, their daughter Dayna in 1986. Looking to create the best possible life for their young family, Kent and Sherry built their first home together in Modesto where they spent many happy years raising their children and building the life they dreamed of. Kent went on to establish his career in Medical Device Sales as an Independent Surgical Consultant where he spent 45 years working alongside doctors and medical staff in hospital emergency rooms across the Bay Area and Central Valley. There, Kent made many lifelong friendships and earned himself a reputation as a mentor, a trusted advisor, and a man of great integrity. After Sherry’s passing in 2007, Kent poured his love and energy into his work and his two children. He never remarried.
Though the lord called Kent home before he could enjoy his retirement years, we take comfort in knowing he loved what he did, he devoted his life to being a provider to his family and would have continued working as long as his body would have allowed.
When Kent wasn’t working, he enjoyed reading, playing golf, and spending as much time as possible with his young granddaughters. The girls brought him light, love, and endless laughter.
Kent is survived by his younger brother Mark, his sister-in-law Sandy Archer, his daughter Dayna, his son Brett, his daughter-in-law Ashley and his two granddaughters, Alexis and Everly.
Funeral services and interment will be at Lakewood Funeral Home in Modesto, CA at 11 am on February 22nd, 2024. Immediately following the service, Kent will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife of 28 years, Sherry.
On behalf of the entire Mahoney family, we want to thank you all for the outpouring of love and condolences during this difficult time.
