Luanne was the youngest child of Louis and Sophie Firpo. She grew up on a ranch in Hickman that has been in the family since her grandparents settled there. Luanne’s parents had thirteen siblings between them; there was always something going on at the ranch. Her days consisted of many family get-togethers, talks over coffee, and holiday traditions. Everyone loved to visit because there were so many things to do, from climbing hills, picking fruit and taking in beautiful sunsets, to feeding animals, driving quads around the lake, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
She attended Hickman Grammar school and she graduated from Hughson High School in 1968. Luanne was involved in song leading, Business Club, and GAA (Girls Athletic Assoc). Her junior year she met the love of her life, Russell Prouty while working on the homecoming float. He asked her to the dance and from there they would form a love that would last a lifetime. They were married in 1971 and raised their son and daughter in Denair, CA. She was an active mom cheering at the top of her lungs at all the sporting events and was the best party planner for all their special gatherings. As her children grew, she was not only an awesome mother to them, but an incredible friend. The light of her life was seeing her grandchildren born and being a part of their lives.
Luanne graduated from MJC and worked several years at the Modesto Courthouse. She worked for Ludlowe and Co. in downtown Turlock where her flare for home decor and gift-wrapping flourished. Later in life she worked in the office for the family trucking business, Ernest Prouty & Sons, until she retired in 2009. Her love for antiques and decor would later encourage her to open up her own space at Treasure Hunters in Turlock. Luanne was also active in the community as a member of the Tri W women’s group in Waterford and played an integral part in making their annual strawberry breakfast a success.
She made everyone feel special because of her genuine, kind, and encouraging spirit. Whether she was playing games with her grandchildren, shopping with her friends, or going out with her husband, she lived her life full of love and was always ready to have a good time. She was able to travel to many fun places on a Harley with Russell, she loved visiting family out-of-town, camping in the RV, and had the trip of a lifetime when she recently visited New York City.
Luanne is survived by her loving husband Russell Prouty of 42 years, her son Russell (Stephanie) Prouty Jr., daughter Amy (Dave) Martin, and 4 beautiful grandchildren, Lily (10), Levi (6), Sophie (3), and Savannah (2). She is also survived by her siblings and in-laws: Loretta (John) Smith, Linda Firpo, Carolyn Firpo, Dennis (Arlene) Prouty, Doug Prouty, Linda Prouty, Debra (Don) Volk, and Diane (Tom) Watling; and many close aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Luanne was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Sophie Firpo, and brother Craig Firpo.
We will honor and celebrate the life she lived with a Memorial Service on Friday, August 29th at 10am at Monte Vista Chapel in Turlock, CA. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, CA.
