JUNE 8, 1931 - OCTOBER 1, 2011
Marion Evans, 80, 0f Modesto, California passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Saturday October 1, 2011.
Marion was born on June 8, 1931 in Little Falls, New York, the youngest child of Luigi and Anna Viscussi. She had 2 sisters Sylinda and Anna and 1 brother Fiori Vicussi. With her mother having passed away just 3 days after her birth, Marion was raised by a woman she called mama; Leita Guile, in upstate New York. She always had a special place in her heart for both her birth family and the family that raised her – she called them her NY family. She remained in contact with both families throughout the years.
At age 17, Marion moved to Santa Rosa, California, where she married, had 4 children, worked and raised her family. She made many new friends that she also considered her family. Marion had a goal to become a nurse and had gone back to school at Santa Rosa Junior College and was accepted into the LVN program. However, she was unable to complete the final semester of the program.
Marion loved to sew, cook, collect receipts and crochet. She was a working mom for many years. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and was a member of Pocahontas.
Marion and her children moved to Hawaii in 1966-67 where she worked for a luxury hotel/restaurant in Waikiki – working in the pantry, where she learned a new art of creating salads, hors d'oeuvres and beautiful creations for banquets and parties.
In 1967, she moved back to Santa Rosa, California and obtained a job with Los Robles Lodge and Restaurant where she enjoyed working in the pantry for more than 25 years before retiring. She always remained in contact with her Los Robles “family”.
In 1992, Marion moved to Modesto, California to be close to her family and began working as a volunteer at Doctor’s Medical Center. She loved working in the intensive care nursery as a cuddler.
Her greatest joy in life was being a Mama, Grandma and Great-grandma. She loved her family and nothing could make her happier than to be with her family. Each grandchild and great-grandchild made her smile and held a very special place in her heart. She prayed for each and every one of her family.
Marion is survived by her 4 children, Garry Clark (Lee) of Ridgecrest, California, Gail “Clark” Brown of Santa Rosa, California, Robert Ankrom (Karen) of Grants Pass, Oregon and Elizabeth “Ankrom” Duncan (Bill) of Riverbank, California. Marion had 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, her beloved NY family, her Los Robles family and all the friends she had acquired throughout the years, which she also considered her family.
She will always be remembered!
