She was born on June 13th, 1926 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to George and Louise Martin. As a young girl Mary was very shy. Childhood life after the depression was simple, with her family often working to grow and hunt their own food.
During her early teens the onset of the dust bowl forced her family to seek a better life in California. There, in 1942, Mary wed William Luke and together they had 5 children: Olivia, Bobby, Mary, Chuck, and Annie.
As Mary grew older her love for gardening blossomed. Anywhere she put down roots, her flower garden was a source of joy. Despite losing her husband and 3 adult children, Mary always had a zest for life. In her golden years Mary really came out of her shell. She enjoyed live music, whether dancing with friends or simply listening along.
She is survived by her sister Roberta, daughters Olivia Esteves and Anne Cabral, 12 grandkids, 31 great-grandkids, and 12 great-great-grandkids.
Services will be December 3rd at Lakewood Funeral Home Heritage Chapel beginning at 11am. The family is asking that in lieu of bereavement gifts, donations be made to the Seva Hospice of Salida, California.
She is loved by all she knew and will be deeply missed.
