Mattie Irene Lester "Grandma" July 17, 1926 - Aug 19, 2016 Mattie Irene Lester (Grandma) 90, wife of the late Glenn Robert Lester, Loving mother of Tom, Sandra (Carl), Helen (Jerry), Steve (deceased), Mark (Cindy), and Cindy (deceased) peacefully passed away Fri., Aug. 19, 2016.
Irene was born in Kansas July 17, 1926 and was raised in Oakland where she met her husband of 55 years. They moved to Modesto in 1958. She and Glenn ran Shorty's Bar & Grill from the mid 60's until 1981. Her favorite things to do were spending time with family, quilting and sewing. In the late 1980's she would volunteer at Parent Resource Center rocking babies. She was known as mom or grandma to everyone who met her. She is survived by her 4 children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Service to celebrate Grandma's life will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, Sat., Aug. 27, 2016. Viewing from 11am–1pm with a service to follow. Reception will be at the home of Sandra & Carl.
