Patricia Louise Askew

Patricia Louise Askew, the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie Mendenhall, was born April 2, 1939 in San Diego. Her family made their way to Hughson, CA where she attended school, ultimately graduating from Hughson High before attending Modesto Junior College. Her first marriage was blessed with her two children Ken and Krissa. In the late 1970s, she met Larry Askew and began a journey that would last 47 years. They spent their marriage together traveling, spending time with their grandchildren and engaging with many friends at the airport gatherings of the Commemorative Air Force. All of these memories she shared with her family and friends through her love of photography.

Pat spent almost 20 years working for the Stanislaus County Office of Education until her retirement. She was active in the Ceres Garden Club, Hughson Historical Society, and most importantly the Hughson United Methodist Church. The foundation of her life was rooted in her Christian faith and following Jesus Christ. Through her faith she was a beacon of God’s love, constantly praying for her family and bringing life to those around her.

She peacefully departed from this life on March 28, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. We will forever cherish her life and the time she had on earth with us. She was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers, Jim Mendenhall and Tom Mendenhall. She leaves behind her husband Larry Askew, her son Ken (Lori) Braden, her daughter Krissa (Scott) Fernandes, six grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters. Also, her brother Bill Mendenhall and his wife Joan who reside in Arkansas. Almost 27 years ago, Bill lovingly donated a kidney to Pat. This gave her the freedom from dialysis to live her life and pursue her interests.

She will be remembered on April 6th at Lakewood Memorial Park with a visitation from 9:00-10:30 am followed by her interment at 11:00 am. A memorial celebration will be held at Hughson United Methodist Church at 12:00 noon. Please join our family to celebrate the gift that was Patricia Louise Askew.
