Pauline was born in Modesto (Ceres), California on January 28th, 1918. She attended schools in Modesto, including Modesto Junior College, where she met Robert H. Schulte, her future husband. Pauline graduated from Modesto Junior College with a degree in Dramatics. As a youth, Paula enjoyed modeling as well as working in the movie theater with her brother Floyd.
Pauline married Bob Schulte on July 4th, 1943 in Modesto. Bob was in the Navy and served as a Commander of dive bombing squadrons in the Solomon Islands and Bismarck Archipelago. During this time, Pauline made a home in Concord awaiting the arrival of their son, William. Paula lived on base and was there during the Port Chicago explosion in July of 1944. Their son Bill was born later that year in Oakland, California. Bob returned to civilian life and they settled in Los Gatos, where son Mark was later born. Pauline enjoyed playing the piano and later took up painting as a hobby. She enjoyed being a homemaker and she and Bob were active in their church. Bob and Pauline enjoyed various day trips to either the coast or the mountains, but especially enjoyed their times at Yosemite. After retirement, Bob and Paula moved back to Modesto, where they make their home for a number of years before Bob passed away in 2012. Pauline moved to Roseville to be near her youngest son in 2013.
Pauline passed away after a brief illness in Roseville, California. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind and loved to sing “In the Garden” and play various Christian hymns, especially “Bringing in the Sheaves”. Paula may not have been known for her culinary skills, however, she will be forever known to the Schulte clan for her “Grandma’s Jello”, of which a holiday celebration is rarely without!
