Robert Earl York, 93, of Modesto, California, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 8, 1931, in Kansas, Robert was the ninth child of George York and Calla Perna.
In 1961, Robert married the love of his life, Mary Ann Albers, and together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with two children, Robert Earl York Jr. and Sherri (Lew Webb), and later, six cherished grandchildren: Angie Margrave, Mercy Huesca, Shelly Ann Huesca, Hunter York, Lewis Webb, and Logan Webb.
Robert dedicated 35 years of his life to education as both a teacher and administrator. He began his career teaching in Ceres for nine years before earning his master’s degree in education. He then served as a teacher and administrator at Paradise School in Modesto for 26 years. Alongside his passion for education, Robert worked as a seasonal USDA inspector for local canneries in Stanislaus County and later continued that work with Patterson Frozen Foods until his retirement in 1994.
Family was the heart of Robert's world. Growing up with 11 siblings, he treasured planning York family reunions and spending time together. He loved the outdoors and spent many summers camping near Lake Alpine, fishing, and hunting—traditions he proudly passed down to his son. At home, Robert had a true green thumb, cultivating a beautiful garden and yard. His adventurous spirit also led him to explore new places, with cruising being one of his favorite ways to travel.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend. He was someone you could always count on—a steady, generous presence in the lives of those around him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary York, and his siblings Elvin York, Kenneth York, Ethel Weaver, Pearl Street, Harvey York, Harry York, Raymond York, Clara Ward, Ivan York, and Leland York.
While Robert will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he is reunited in Heaven with Mary, his family, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
