Ronald L. Schacht

Ronald Lawrence Schacht, 81, of Salida, California passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto, California. He was born on September 24, 1943 in Lake City, Minnesota to Edward and Emma (Mickow) Schacht. He was raised in Lake City where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. He participated in basketball, football, golf, and student council. Upon graduating, he traveled to Minneapolis to enter the U.S. Air Force where he dedicated four years of honorable service as a cook for the Airmen.

Ron went to work at Lockheed Martin as a machinist ten years later and remained there until he retired after 35 years of service. He married Jana on June 8, 1985 in Monterey on the beach at the beautiful Portola-Crespi Cross. Following their nuptials, the two moved to Salida where they resided for 40 years before his passing.

Ron loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer, always scoring on the green. He was a good friend, neighbor, and coworker. Ron was also a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, repping his home state. But most of all, Ron’s most cherished times were spent with his friends and family.

Ron is survived by his wife, Jana Schacht of Columbus, Nebraska; his two sons Quentin and Wade Schacht of Texas; Jana’s three children, Gene, Julie, and Peggy; his grandchildren, Sophia, Jordan, Emerald, Jasmine, Ava, Maggie, and Riley; and his brother Howard Schacht. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wayne, brother Gordan, sister Shirley, and sister Diana.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Chapel of the Lakewood Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Dew officiating. Burial will follow the service in the grounds of the Lakewood Memorial Park with military honors.
