April 23, 1932 - July 10, 2013
Rosaland Modean, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Rosie was born April 23, 1932 to John and Maud Rogers in Clay Center, KS. She attended school in Clay Center, KS, where she met the love of her life, Duane Modean. After she graduated high school, they were married on July 7, 1951. Her husband Duane was in the U.S. Navy, so she traveled with him. They lived in San Diego, San Francisco and Key West, Florida. When Duane was stationed overseas, Rosie went back to Kansas to wait for him to come back. After his release from the Navy in 1952 he came and picked her up and they moved to Modesto, CA. On November 30, 1953 their son Wayne was born. While living there she raised Parakeets. She also raised and bred Boston Terriers as a hobby. She also loved to dance. Rosie and Duane would go out Square dancing every week where they would meet with the dance club "The Square Anders."
In 1963, Rosie, her husband Duane and son Wayne, moved out to Hopper Rd. in Modesto, where they built and operated an almond farm business. Rosie and her husband Duane owned and operated Modean Farms Inc. Rosie was the secretary for the corporation. When she moved to the farm she became a beekeeper, and raised Queen Bees. Rosie's other hobbies on the farm were raising and showing Paint Horses. She belonged to the American Paint Horse Association. Everyone knew her by the "horse lady." She loved showing her horses in shows all over California and as far as Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rosie loved collecting Paint Horse figurines. She raised her horses until her health took a turn in 1990. Rosie then took up another hobby raising Chihuahuas. She had just bought two new Chihuahuas. They were her babies, Rosie loved to be around her family and loved to go to family and friends functions. She made an awesome creamed corn dish, which was requested by all of our family at our get togethers. Rosie also loved her sweets; she was a See's Candy gal! Rosie also loved to eat out quite often. Rosie was not much into traveling, but she loved to go and gamble when her health was good. Her last trip to Black Oak was in May of this year. Rosie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Miller Ave.
Rosie was a wonderful and loving wife to her husband of 62 years, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grand- mother, a loving aunt and sister-in-law. She is preceded in death by her one and only child, Wayne Lynn Modean, of Modesto; her parents, John and Maud (Gooch) Rogers, of Clay Center, KS. Rosie's in-laws, Samuel and La Verne Modean, of Modesto; her brother-in-law Wilbur Modean, of Modesto; and sister-inlaw, Donna and Alvin Urban, of Morganville, KS.
