Sheila Rebecca Lacher, better known as Shelly, passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 62. She was living in Denair, California and had spent most of her life in Hughson, California, where so many of her memories were made.
Shelly was born to Ron and Diane Lacher and grew up surrounded by family, animals, and sports. She was a proud member of Hughson 4-H and Hughson High FFA, she raised and showed sheep, and as a young 4-H’er she also showed her pony, Toni.
Her first love was baseball. Shelly was one of the first girls to play on a boys’ Little League team in Hughson. She went on to shine in softball, playing left-handed first base and earning MVP honors at Hughson High. She continued playing at Modesto Junior College and later joined several travel teams, competing across the United States and earning many awards along the way. A serious knee injury eventually slowed her down, but it never took away her love of the game. Even in later years, she played on city teams and in church leagues just for the joy of being on the field.
Shelly loved the outdoors — camping with friends, enjoying fresh air, and sharing laughs under the open sky. In her spare time, she painted rocks and secretly placed them around the neighborhood to brighten someone’s day. She also spent time walking dogs for friends and family, happy to help and always enjoying the company of a four-legged friend.
She is survived by her parents, Ron and Diane Lacher; her sisters, Wendy Foreman (Steve) and Jenean Fisher (Ed); her nieces Kasey Werner (Caleb), Aubrey Kroeker (Brian), and Korrynn Foreman; her nephews Kyle Foreman (Jade), Lucas Fisher (Stephanie), and Jonah Fisher; and six great-nephews and four great-nieces who brought her so much joy.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, August and Lena Lacher of Oakland, Ivan and Lucy Wilharm of Turlock, her cousin Scott Wilharm, and her niece Courtney Andrea Fisher.
Shelly will be remembered for her determination, her love of sports, her kindness to others, and the little colorful rocks she left behind as reminders to smile. She lived life with heart, strength, and a bit of stubborn grit — and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
