Passed away peacefully at age 96, surrounded by his loving family in Hughson, California. He
was born to Ambrose and Delia (Seveland) Lane in Spokane, Washington, the eldest of three
sons. As his father was a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad, Vincent moved frequently and
attended many schools, finally settling in the Hughson and Empire area and graduated from
Modesto High in 1946. He met and married Billie Jean Jones, the love of his life, in 1952 shortly
before serving in the US Army in the Korean War. He attended and played football at MJC and
Sacramento State. He worked for the Grange company in Modesto and later earned his
teaching credential at Stanislaus State and taught at Modesto High School for over 20 years. As
an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, golf and watching the 49ers and
Giants. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James and Dennis, his wife of 56 years Billie
Jean and his son, Gary. Loved ones remaining are Kathryn (David) Pratt of Fairfield, Rebecca
(Steven) Davis of Redmond, Oregon, Joseph (Lynda) Lane of Visalia and Patricia (Michael)
Ruhland of Hughson, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at
Lakewood Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside and reception
to follow immediately. Donations can be made to his favorite charities, the ASPCA and St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
