Virginia Louise Curtiss, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the age of 99.
Virginia was born on November 13, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Denny Milton Curtiss, in Eureka, California. The couple settled in Modesto in 1948, where Virginia would make her home for the rest of her life.
Virginia dedicated more than three decades of service to Pacific Bell, where she worked from 1949 until her retirement in 1982. That same year, she suffered the loss of her husband.
A woman of deep faith and quiet dedication, Virginia was a member of First Baptist Church (later known as Crosspoint Community Church) from 1976 to present. She was actively involved in church life, singing in the choir and faithfully assisting with the weekly church newsletter in her early years.
Virginia found joy in simple pleasures—especially bowling, music, and serving others. She was known for her steady presence, strong work ethic, and devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denny Curtiss; her daughter, Victoria Hyson; two grandchildren, Tyler Stebbins and Austin Hyson; and one great-grandchild, Ashley Papoff.
Virginia is survived by her loving daughters: Christine Ann Stebbins (Jay) of Hollister, California; Sheryl Lorraine Gustafson (John) of Turlock, California; and Barbara Lee Mollett (Jeff) of Modesto, California. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy in her life.
Virginia will be remembered for her faith, her dedication to family, and the many quiet ways she served those around her. Her legacy lives on through the generations she so dearly loved.
There will be a private family service.
