Virginia R. Plemmons Murphy

Virginia Ruth (Plemmons) Murphy; born Sept. 15, 1929 in Oakland, CA to Roney K. Plemmons and Mable F. (Nelson) Plemmons. Virginia was raised in Fredonia, Kansas from age 8 to her Junior year of high school. She graduated from Hughson High School in 1948; her best friend in high school was Doris Sisco. Virginia attended MJC for a short time and then went on to work at a “soda fountain shop,” canary worker at Tri-Valley, Campbell Soup, S&W Foods, Stanislaus Foods, as well as sorting nuts for Haig Berberian. Virginia was also an owner operator for the “family recreation and bus stop” in Livingston, CA and co-owner of the Atlantic Richfield gas station in Hughson and Livingston. Virginia met her true love Carl J. Murphy in Dec. 1950 and they were married two weeks later on Jan. 7, 1951 Virginia and Carl were married for 57 years before he passed in May of 2008. Virginia enjoyed family gatherings and preparing the food for her family. She always put her family needs before hers. She enjoyed fishing and camping as well as knitting and crocheting. Virginia was a long time member of the first So. Baptist Church in Ceres and enjoyed teaching vacation Bible school for young kids. Virginia and Carl had 6 children; 3 girls and 3 boys. Linda (Sheldon) Reed of Lakeside, AZ, Randy (Valorie) Murphy of Riverbank, CA, Vivian (Cliff) Regello of Ceres, CA, Nelson (Lori) Murphy of Stockton, CA, Diania (Kim) Barker of Ceres, CA, and Kenneth (Sherri) Murphy of Oakdale, CA, 24 grandchildren, as well as raising 3 of Carl’s nephews: Ronald Murphy (deceased), Charles Murphy (deceased), and Robert Murphy of N. Platte, NE. Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, in Hughson. Visitation in the Riverside Chapel on Tuesday, July 1st from 4-8:00pm. Chapel service on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Virginia’s honor to Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org
