Wanda Lavonne Farris passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024 at the age of 88. Born on September 22, 1936, she was known for her vibrant personality, love for others and a contagious laugh. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Debi Abshier (Larry), Greg Farris (Susie), Dennie Farris (Cheryl), Denise Zimmerman (Bob), and Sabrina Hull (Dean). She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hurshell Farris, all of her immediate family and all of her closest friends.
Wanda's life was a testament to love, generosity, and service. She adored her large family and her long-term friendships. Her house was always a hub of activity and a place where all were welcome. Relatives, friends, and even friends of her children always knew they had a place to go for a chat, a meal, or a place to stay.
Wanda’s care for others extended beyond her family and into the Modesto community. She took great pride in being a "Pink Lady" volunteer at Doctors’ Hospital, where she was a "cuddler" for preemie babies. She was a multi-gallon donor for the Delta Blood Bank and served the children during vacation bible school at Modesto Covenant Church, where she attended. She and her husband Hurshell were also charter members of the Tube Testers Radio Club. “Duchess” loved to sing and performed in their yearly "Country Jubilee."
A talented seamstress, Wanda was always crafting countless garments, costumes and cheerleading uniforms for her family and friends. You could always count on Wanda to show up, ready to plan and organize whatever needed to be done.
Above all, Wanda cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker and always supported her family in their endeavors. She was an incredibly loyal person and enjoyed friendships that spanned more than 50 years. She lived a full life and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Casa de Modesto, in honor of Wanda's memory and the legacy she leaves behind.
