

Kendra Monique Lumpkin was born on March 29, 1991, to her loving family in Chicago, IL, and departed this life, on July 28, 2022. Kendra was a young, intelligent, accomplished woman of virtue and her devotion to her family and friends was admirable. Kendra gave her life to Christ at a very young age, she attended Rose of Sharon Church (Chicago, IL) where she was baptized and a part of the Joy choir. She also attended DuPage AME Church (Lisle, IL) where she was a part of the girl scouts and youth choir.
Kendra was an esteemed athlete and scholar who aspired to be an Orthopedic surgeon. Kendra attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School, where she made great friends and was a fierce competitor on the volleyball and basketball teams. She then attended Plainfield High School and was part of the first graduating class of 2010. After high school, Kendra attended Mizzou University for a short period of time, where she was a part of Phi Sigma Phi National Honor Fraternity. She was then awarded a full scholarship to Michigan State University where she was a member of the women’s basketball team. She graduated with a BS in Kinesiology in 2015 and an MS in Biology in 2018. Her latest educational accomplishment was receiving an MS in Nursing from Emory University in 2022. Kendra was a mentor and role model to everyone she encountered, especially her siblings. She always stressed the importance of being a stellar student-athlete.
Kendra’s passion to help others lead her to work as an ER Tech, EMT, and Chief medical scribe. Kendra loved her work; she was passionate about healthcare and always considered her patients’ well-being first. She was a very diligent and hard-working young lady.
The same drive and passion she had on the court, she also exhibited off the court. She was musically inclined and played the piano and saxophone. She loved Burning Boy and Kendrick Lamar and often would surprise the family with her smooth, cool dance moves. Kendra was creative with her hands including blacksmithing, drawing, woodworking, and obtaining a black belt in karate.
Anyone who knew Kendra knew how funny and full of life she was. She had a smile that would light up the room. Kendra had an incredible relationship with her mother, it truly was like no other. She was compassionate, outspoken, and her loved her family unconditionally. Her presence always added peace and positivity to any environment. Kendra had charisma, she was beautiful, intelligent, and full of wisdom. Kendra loved and spoiled her dog, Luna, who brought her so much joy. She was a loving daughter, big sister, friend, niece, cousin, girlfriend, dog-mom, teammate, classmate, and so much more. Overall, Kendra was a ROCK STAR!!!
Kendra leaves to cherish her memories, her loving parents Brenda and Jerry Lumpkin. Her father Dr. Christian Okezie. Her sister Jasmine Lumpkin of Houston, TX. Brothers, Joshua Lumpkin and Marshawn Lumpkin of Humble, TX. A special brother Ikenna Okezie (Etomgi) of Virginia. 3 other brothers, Alozie Okezie, Enyinna Okezie, and Nwabueze Okezie. Her girlfriend Desiree Clemons of Detroit, MI. 5 aunts, Linda Haywood of Chicago, IL, Wanda Nash of Chicago, IL, Teresa Armstead (Maurice) of Bolingbrook, IL, Bernice Betts of Iowa, and Renee Jones (Larry) of Houston, TX. 6 uncles, Andre Nash of Chicago, IL, Joseph Spencer (Debbie) of Chicago, IL, Johnnie Haywood of Chicago, IL, Michael Jackson of Chicago, IL, Glen Jackson (Daisy) of San Jose, CA, and Ivan Jackson of Pennsylvania. God-mother Joy Wilkins of Chicago, IL. Her great-aunt, Mary Stedrick of Chicago, IL. Her best friend Taylor Farrell of Atlanta, GA, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and teammates.
