Paul Grady Barrett

Paul Grady Barrett passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 85. He was born on May 6, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas. Paul was married to Judy Kay Fitzgerald in 1979. Paul and Judy have three daughters, Kristin Barrett of Houston, Leslie Barrett of Dallas, and Ashley Barrett of Dallas. He has one brother, Ager Barrett of Bulverde, Texas. Paul was blessed with a host of friends from his church, work, and the many organizations which he volunteered with.

Paul graduated from Kingsville High School in 1958 and shortly thereafter he joined the United States Marine Corps. He trained in boot camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. He often spoke of those days as some of the most challenging and best of his life. He was an accomplished marksman while at Camp Pendleton. Paul served in the Army Reserves for over 10 years in Houston. He graduated from Texas A & M University in the class of 1963. He served as the president of his junior class while at TAMU and was awarded the Jesse Jones Scholarship. Paul was a proud member of the Texas A & M Corps of Cadets.

Paul had many interests and hobbies during his life. These included photography, picture framing, and writing. He was a gifted and published writer of both technical and religious articles. Being a dedicated student of the scriptures, Paul loved sharing all that he learned with others. He taught many Bible classes at his church and was known by all for his deep knowledge of the scriptures. Paul was blessed to be able to go to Israel on a pilgrimage in 2015 and that trip truly changed his life. He developed an intense desire to learn more about the Bible from the Jewish perspective. Paul took online courses at the University of Notre Dame. He enrolled in a course of study that was designed to take two years to complete. Paul completed the courses in 18 months. On his final paper, the professor wrote that he would love to be a student in one of Paul’s Bible classes someday. When he finished the classes at Notre Dame, Paul enrolled in online courses at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He received a certificate in Scriptural Theology at Hebrew University. Anyone who knew Paul also knew of his love for the study of scripture. He used all that he learned to teach others about the Bible. Paul lived what he learned as an example of the love of Christ for those around him.

Paul always did his part to make the organizations that he volunteered with stronger and better because of his service. He worked actively in the Republican Party in both Fort Bend and Wharton counties. He served as the secretary to the Force Recon Association, a United States Marine Corps group. He loved and respected all of his Marine buddies, and attended many reunions and functions with the FRA. One of his favorite things to do with the association was to give them some of his favorite “collectibles” to auction off at events to raise money for the group. Paul was quite a collector of many things – watches, silver belt buckles, guns, knives, and collectors editions of books about heroic Marines.

Paul deeply loved his God, his family, his country, and his friends. He served all of them well throughout his life. Paul will be greatly missed by so many for the great blessing that he was in our lives.
