Mr. Rios was one of those teachers who genuinely wanted his students to not only learn but grow into the best versions of ourselves. During the times as his Spanish class student at Hambrick Middle School in 2008/2009, I was going through a rough moment in my life as I was dealing with a lot of abuse and harboring negative emotions towards my family, my classmates, and my teachers which didn't help my situation in the least bit. There was an incident where I deliberately disrespected him which he wrote me up for and I received consequences for my disrespect.

When I completed the penalty for my offense, I returned to my regular classes according to my schedule. I attended his class with utter shame and guilt so I wouldn't dare do anything out of line. Before the class period ended, Mr. Rios asked me if there was some time that we could talk. We agreed on a time and I arrived at the agreed time. He was the first teacher and mentor outside of my family that genuinely wanted to guide me and help me with my troubles, and I could sense that as a teenager. I explained to him all the difficulties in my life that I was experiencing. Not only did he give me a sense of someone guiding me with warmth and serenity but he also gifted me the power of perspective which was a very new concept to me. Mr. Rios also wanted me to know that he didn't write me up to punish me, but he wanted me to understand that I wasn't a bad kid like I thought I was. I was just allowing that perception of myself to unfold. He wanted to stop it right in its tracks as his student.

Thank you for being the first instructor to be my friend and for making me a proud Chicano, Mr. Rios. I wish I could have told you that before you left so soon.

Oh daddy :( I love and miss you so much. Please look after us. We need you. Wish you were here. Can't believe you haven't been here for a whole year. Please give Rudy a big hug. Y'all definitely are missed. Until we meet again.

Pops this literally like losing my Dad all over again . I cant believe I am sitting here trying to find the words to say Goodbye. I can't do it, I cant say goodbye to you . I am so very grateful to have had you in my life wrong or right you never turned your back on me. You and mom took me from okc all the way too your home houston and treated me like your own to give me a fresh start. I stayed several months only to go back to okc and end up in prison for 5yrs, and still then you and all the family had my back. I can never repay you for the love and support you have given me. I will never forget you and never take my eyes off the rest of family. Rest In Peace Pops I love you Always and forever we will mourn you till we can join you and big bro.😢

I worked with Mr. Rios at Hempstead ISD and he was always smiling and joking around he will surely be missed 

My name is Minister Scheharyl Fry. I had the pleasure of meeting and working under Mr. Rios for a short time at 
Hempstead ISD. 
  I'm a strong believer that it's not the quantity of time you have in life, but the quality. In the short time of working under Mr. Rios I feel that I really got to know him.
 It was about this time last year that he bought one of my books and when I got to school the next morning after he bought it, when I got to work he spoke then he said, " can I see for a minute."He began to open up and talk to me about some things, but the thing that stood out the most was that before I left out of his office he asked me,"Will you pray for me?"
  He was an exceptional Principal. He really showed a love and interest in the students and staff.

I am so grateful to have been able to call you daddy for 35 years. Lord knows I'd give anything to have you here longer. I know God needed you more. You were amazing, supportive, funny, strong, loving and the best dad anyone could ever need. Thank you for your guidance and unconditional love. I'm sure gonna miss you but I know Rudy needed you too and now y'all can rest together.  Life will never be the same without you. My heart hurts daddy. I'll never forget you. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories. Heaven is so lucky to have you.

Mr. Rudy,
I can't believe you are gone. I am so sad for your children to have to say goodbye to you but seeing their strength is amazing, a strength only having you as a father would they have learned.
Many years ago I met you and your family during one of the most difficult times of my life. 
As a young adult I befriended your son Ruben and we have always had a special bond. So much so that I have always called him my brother.
I looked up to you as an example of what a father was since I never knew one myself and you never judged me or looked down on me even when I was homeless living in my car. Even when my own family and I weren't on the best of terms I always felt welcome by you guys and became an adopted member, an honorary Rios.
When I felt I had nowhere to go, you allowed me to park in your driveway and sleep there, wash my clothes and shower at your home, I even first learned what Fideo was by eating it there in your kitchen.
For those experiences I will forever be grateful.

I just want to start of by saying thank you for everything you have ever done for not only my mother but me as well over the years. You have changed my life in so many ways and I really just can't believe you are gone. You and my mom we're just here a few weeks ago with me and Juan. I sure hope that you continue to watch over us. You are and angel now in heaven in your other happy place, with your son. Hopefully, one day I will get to see you again in the sky. You fly high. Take care of my mommy from the sky. I know you're up there with my little baby I lost in March. Pawpaw is definitely going to make he/she laugh until they hurt. I'm going to miss you more than you will ever know. Thank you for not only changing our lives, but the lives of your family, your coworkers and students. You've really left an impact that will last a lifetime. 

Dad you are finally in heaven with not only Rudy but with Marina, Daniel, and your grandma.  I truly am grateful God made you my father.  Your caring, strength, and knowledge I will carry along with my sisters in your memory.  Your impact on this world was so much, you changed so many lives and always were there for those in need.  You raised us with so much unconditional love and taught us how to be the strong adults we are today.  I will forever have you not only in my heart but my mind in all the decisions I make moving forward.  Although I wish you were here with me right now,  I know that God only takes the best.  I will miss more than you can ever imagine!   I love you!
