Sylvia Podeyn

Sylvia Podeyn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Born on November 12, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, Sylvia lived a life full of kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family.

She worked for over 20 years as a dedicated legal secretary at Vinson & Elkins law firm, where she was admired for her professionalism, hard work, and big personality.

In July of 2014, Sylvia married Troy Knight, with whom she shared 11 wonderful years. She is survived by her loving husband, Troy Knight; her daughter, Christine (Patrick); and her seven grandchildren: Christian (Lydia), Jacob (Julie), Noah, Abigail, Seth, Sam, and Luke Poteet. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Anna, Camellia, James, Poppy, Elliot, and Claire. Sylvia is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Willis.

A memorial service honoring Sylvia’s life will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

Sylvia was the heart of every room—full of life, warmth, and light. The kind of woman who never met a stranger, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word. A devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother, she lived with an open heart and gave of herself freely.
