Aleyamma Varughese

Aleyamma Varughese was born into a Christian family on May 1, 1942 to the late Varughese Thomas and the late Saramma Varughese at Kottanadu house in Ranni, Kerala, India. She was the youngest of five children, with three sisters and one brother. She received her registered nursing degree in Gandhi Medical College.

She became the beloved wife of the late Thomas Varughese on July 11, 1966. They were married for 52 years and were blessed with three children, who loved her dearly.

She immigrated to the United States in 1974 at age of 32y, and took residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She worked as a registered nurse at Parkview Hospital and other locations for 30 years.

Aleyamma was known for her humor, hospitality, compassion and quiet spiritual strength. She loved music and to cook all kinds of ethnic foods, including Italian, Indian and Filipino dishes. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Mar Thoma Church since its inception in Philadelphia. She believed that abundance in life comes from service to others, which stemmed from her steadfast faith in God.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Varughese, her daughter, Reena Varughese, brother, Thomas Varughese, and sister, Saramma Mathew.

She is survived by two children, Ribu Varughese and Ruby Varughese, a granddaughter Julie Aneja and 2 sisters, Mariamma Varughese and Annamma Mathew, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Aleyamma will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Lamb Funeral Home Inc., 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006, followed by a funeral service from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, 101 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. An interment will occur after the funeral service at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006.
