Mom, age 87, passed away quietly on Wednesday, January 8, 2015 with Carol and me by her side. She was one of two daughters born to Frank L. Simonyi and Katherine E. Simonyi who predeceased her many years ago. She was also predeceased by her husband and our dad, John Francis Pfau, Catherine T. Stier (sister) and John Henzy (son-in-law). Mom is survived by her daughters Carol C. Henzy and me, Elizabeth A. Molnar, and my husband William L. Molnar; grandchildren Erich L. Molnar (Christina), Bryan W. Molnar (Shana), Jason A. Molnar (Kerri) Michelle T. Lakatosh (Ron) and John W. Kebles, Jr.; great grandchildren Taylor N. Molnar, Jackson A. Molnar, Austin C. Molnar, Parker W. Molnar, Wyatt K. Molnar, Michael T. Molloy, Sarah L. Molloy, and Ryan P. McCarty; and great, great granddaughter Lily M. Parker.
In her younger years, Mom was an avid reader, orchid enthusiast, knitter, cook, and baker. She was a wiz with the family recipes passed down through the generations and loved experimenting with new dishes. Professionally, she held clerical positions with several different companies.
Mom relished being in the spotlight—entertaining and cooking for family and her dear sewing circle friends. She enjoyed listening to old favorites sung by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Andy Williams, and Mario Lanza. Our home was often filled with the sounds of the Big Band greats and classical masters, but she loved nothing more than the sound of Dad singing. She used to say it gave her goose bumps when she heard his voice!
After Dad passed, Mom moved to Woodbury Mews in Woodbury, New Jersey—making new friends and enjoying activities with the other residents. She took up crossword puzzles, Bingo, and watching old movies. Her knowledge of trivia in the games they played was amazing! Above all, she enjoyed visits with all of us.
Mom is now reunited with Dad, Nanny and Pop Pop, Aunt Catherine, and the grandparents she loved so dearly, Peter and Katherine Rumpf, and Mathias and Katherine Simonyi. Rest in peace, Mom. Until we meet again…
