Margaret Obozian

Margaret Obozian (nee Kezerian), age 95, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023. Margaret was born on January 23, 1928 to Hagop and Maritza Kezerian from Malatia. She and her sister Mary grew up in Philadelphia and were members of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church.

Margaret always loved school and was an honor student. At her high school graduation, she was awarded a 4-year scholarship to Drexel University. This enabled her to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. Later in life, she earned a master's degree from Temple University.

Margaret married Mitchell Obozian on June 26, 1949, and they had a happy marriage for 54 years until Mitchell's death in 2003. Together they raised three children and were loving and devoted parents.

Margaret taught at Peirce College for 62 years, reaching the rank of Professor. Upon retirement, Peirce College established the Margaret Obozian Excellence in Business Writing Award to be presented annually at their graduation ceremony. Soon after, she returned to Peirce teaching part-time with the rank of Professor Emeritus.

Margaret received many honors and awards during her career, including the Lindback Award for Teaching Excellence, 2 Hamilton Awards for Academic Excellence, Who's Who Among Scholars, Peirce Professionals Award, Employee of the Quarter Award and Drexel University Award for Outstanding Service.

Margaret considered herself a very lucky woman to have, in her words, “a perfect family, a satisfying career, and good health."

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell, her sister Mary and her daughter Mary Ann.

She is survived by children Margaret Gairo (Andy), Jack Obozian (Colleen), son-in-law Michael Moore, grandchildren Nicholas, Marissa, Molly and James, great-grandchildren Tucker, Dallas and Charlotte and nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Margaret will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19128. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 8701 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19128. Followed by the interment at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA.
