She was a long-time resident of Simpson House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Norma was born on October 4, 1930, and graduated from Canton High School in 1949. Norma married Alton Wayne Fields in 1952, and they were together for 35 years until his death in 1987.
Norma’s passion was volunteering at church (Mt. Carmel UMC), along with working for the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy where she taught adults to read. Norma enjoyed numerous leadership roles in the Boy Scouts of America with a particular love of Klondike Derby’s and camping. Additionally, she served as Judge of Elections in Fern Rock for over 40 years.
Norma enjoyed playing the piano, cranberry tea, cryptograms, crossword puzzles, and playing UPWORDS (“it is harder than Scrabble”, she would say.)
Norma is survived by her daughter Sharon (Jennifer) of Saint Paul, Minnesota and her daughter-in-law Jackie (Donald Paul, d. 2010) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her granddaughter (Jemia) and four great-grandchildren (Ryan, Rico, Re’Yanna, and JaKayla).
A grave-side service will take place in the spring at Rosedale Memorial Park in Bensalem, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hamline Church United Methodist Saint Paul, Minnesota (Hamlinechurch.org).
