

Walter L. Wagner, age 90, passed peacefully in Philadelphia, PA on February 14, 2013. He was born in Saskatchewan, Canada; in his youth his family moved to Blaine, Washington, and Walter obtained his U.S. Citizenship. Walter joined the U.S. Army during WWII. He proudly served his country for over 23 years, through World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam Wars. He was deployed oversees in the Philippines, France, Germany, and Korea. He was a highly decorated serviceman, and he received many awards, commendations, and citations. Walter was a retired Army Staff Sergeant. Walter was a life member of American Legion Post # 25 of Hampton, VA. He was editor and writer for the Post #25 newsletter, which received several State and National awards under his leadership. In May of 2004, Walter received the Service to America Award, a testimonial of gratitude for his lifetime sacrifice and commitment to his country from the American Legion. While a serviceman, Walter established his home in Hampton, Virginia, having served at both Ft. Eustis and Ft. Monroe Army posts in Virginia. He was a 67 year resident of Hampton, Virginia. He was moved to Philadelphia, Pa to be closer to his family during his last few months.
He was the devoted husband of the late Mary Gwendolyn (Strickland) Wagner of Claxton, GA, to whom he was married for 49 years and beloved father of Rebecca (husband Howard) Dion of Bensalem, PA, and loving grandfather of Brian Dion of Sellersville, PA and Melanie Elliott of Cinnaminson, NJ, and great grandfather of Brianna Dion, Kirsten Dion, Nicholas Dion, and Olivia Elliott. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral service, Sunday, March 3, 2013 2 PM at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Friends may call on the family from 1 PM until time of service.
Walter's committal service and Military Honors will take place Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 10 AM at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave., Hampton, Virginia 23666.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to The American Heart Association.
