

Willem Jan van Eekhout passed away at his home on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Born on May 23, 1920 in Djokjakarta, Indonesia, he was the beloved husband of the late Yvonne (Long) van Eekhout for 65 years and was the son of the late Jan Gerard and Hermine Arnold van Eekhout. He had lived in North Wales, PA for the past year following the death of his wife in 2013. He was previously a longtime resident of Bakersfield, CA.
Mr. van Eekhout served in the Dutch Army during WW II and was a Japanese POW for 3 years. He immigrated to America in 1956 with his wife and three children and settled in California in 1957. He was a retired accountant with Golden Bear Oil-Witco Chemical Company.
Willem was an avid tennis player and enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. He was a Communicant of Corpus Christi Parish in Lansdale, PA and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bakersfield, CA
Willem was the devoted father of Odette Liddle (Robert) of North Wales, PA, Linda Meyers (Robert) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Carry van Eekhout of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by his sisters Jeanne and Els van Eekhout of Alphen a/d Rijn, Holland, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass 10 A.M. on Monday, April 7th at Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446. The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until the time of Mass. His interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler.
In lieu of flowers; donations in his name may be made to the SPCA or the American Cancer Society.
