

Bill J. Hill, 83 of Huntington passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was a 1946 graduate of LaFontaine High School. He was a 1953 graduate of Ball State Teachers College with a Bachelors degree in Education. In 1959 he received his Masters degree from Ball State. In 1965 he achieved his superintendent’s license and 1971 he attained his permanent supervisor’s license. Always an active churchman, Bill was a long time member of the Warren United Church of Christ where he served for many years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and church moderator. Since 1992 Bill has been an active member of the College Park Church. He was a member of the Huntington Metro Kiwanis Club and was a former member and past president of the Warren Kiwanis. He was also privileged to serve as a Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis International. For many years he served on the local boards of Crime Stoppers, Council on Aging and the Literacy Council.
Mr. Hill began his teaching career in 1953 as a Business and English teacher at Hartford Center High School in Adams County. In 1959 he began his career as a public school principal at the Jackson Township High School in Wells County. From 1966 until his retirement in 1986, he served as principal for the following HCCSC Schools: Union Elementary, Warren Elementary and Salamonie School. Following retirement in 1986, Bill and his wife Carol owned and operated The Outfit – a clothing store, in Warren until 1990. Bill was also well known as a driver’s education instructor for many years. He was a card-carrying, diehard Cubs fan.
He was born on August 10, 1928 in Wabash County, the son of Harry and Myrtle (Snyder) Hill.
He was united in marriage to Carol M. Amstutz on June 3, 1956 at the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana.
Survivors include his wife: Carol M. Hill of Huntington; two daughters: Joan (Jeff) Sherlock of Huntington; Ronda (Brian) Walter of Mt. Juliet, TN; a son: Greg (Eleanor) Hill of Levering, MI; a first cousin: Max (Jeanne) Hill of Carmel; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Georgianna Hill.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the College Park Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington, Indiana with Pastor Gary Dilley officiating.
Interment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
