

Lawrence Eugene Kennedy, Sr., 97 of Huntington passed away at 7:15 pm on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Parkview Huntington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Lawrence served in the United States Army during WWII and served in the South Pacific. He had a yard grading business, and later retired from the US Postal Service in Huntington. He was a member of the Andrews Lions Club for 60 years and was a member of Andrews First Christian Church for 55 years. He was currently a member of Central Christian Church in Huntington and he enjoyed church services at Heritage of Huntington.
Lawrence was born on January 15, 1918 in Huntington, a son of Joseph and Minta Kennedy.
He was united in marriage to Jean Joyce Roth on February 23, 1947 in Harlan, Indiana. They were happily married for 68 years. They lived in Andrews for 62 years and recently resided in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include their five children: Sharon (Robert) Nightingale of Sweetser; Lawrence (Christine) Kennedy, Jr. of Springfield, IL; Joyce (John) Eckelbarger of Huntington; Rita (Gregory) Hawk of Novi, MI; Becky (Joseph) Mumm of Bremen; 12 grandchildren: Robby (Lisa) Nightingale, Christie (Aaron) Lake, Lawrence (Shelly) Kennedy III, Luke (Katie) Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Scott (Kim) Eckelbarger, Joe (Jessica) Eckelbarger, Alexandra Hawk, Brandon (Nicole) Koch, Ryan Koch and Emily Koch and 25 great grandchildren: Cameron, Morgan, Logan, Rhiley, Austin, Blakely, Lilly, Monica, Maddie, Mazie, Lane, Josie, Oliver, Brittany, Justin, Kraegan, Kaylor, Karlie, Gus, Lucy, Sam, Gino, Corbin, Liam and Julian. Lawrence and Jean have a total of 60 family members.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Kennedy, Henry G. Kennedy, a sister: Lorene Harrel Reynolds, a granddaughter: Julie Nall and great granddaughter: Autumn Nall.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 12:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Andrews.
