Paul "Gene" Eugene Hammond

Paul “Gene” Eugene Hammond, 69 of Fort Wayne and formerly of Huntington passed away at 3:34 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Paul was a 1961 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He was a former member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington. He had worked for the Erie Lackawanna/Conrail Railways for 17 years and later was employed by Good Humor Breyers for over 25 years. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, landscaping and was an avid race fan.

Paul was born on October 18, 1942 in Huntington County, a son of Paul D. and Mary (Gephart) Hammond.

He was united in marriage to Betty J. Ley on July 8, 1961 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son: Jeffrey (Tanya) Hammond of Fort Wayne; two daughters: Tonya (Stephen) Fink of Fort Wayne; Angela (Christopher) Wing of Huntertown; a brother: Charles Hammond of Huntington; a sister: Patricia Fox of Huntington; seven grandchildren and a step-grandson: Katherine and Audrey Hammond, Miles Noe, Hilary, Hannah and Tyler Fink, Brianna and Isabella Wing.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Mary Westendorf and a brother: Thomas Hammond.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry Street, Huntington with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
