Shirley Hiemstra, 85 of Huntington, went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, February 25, 2025, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington, with her loving husband Carl by her side. Shirley was a 1957 graduate of Clarion High school, where she excelled in cheerleading, the drama department and was a Majorette. She later received an associates degree from Marin College. She had worked as a Records Clerk for many years for the State of California. Shirley was full of kindness and was pure love. In the words of her family - "We know our savior and his beautiful promise. The happiness and abundance that Mom gave us is now multiplied in the heavenly sunshine of God's Mercy."
Shirley was born on March 30, 1939 in Forest City, IA a daughter of the late Leo and Engrid (Olson) Nesset.
She was united in marriage to Carl W. Hiemstra of August 25, 1957 in Bremerton, WA. Carl survives.
Additional survivors include three sons: Timothy Hiemstra of Vallejo, CA, Thomas Hiemstra of Marion, and Tracy Hiemstra of Fort Wayne: two grandchildren: Michele Gerlach of Novato, CA and Travis Devine of Reno, NV; and four great grandchildren: Maximus Gerlach, Hannah Gerlach, Jackson Hiemstra and Lucas Hiemstra.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Ione Erickson, Arlene Knapper and Elsie Mechen.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St. Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral Services will also take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025 immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Interment will take place at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Huntington.
