V. Anne (Stephan) Stonebraker, 85 of Huntington passed away at 9:19 am on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at her residence. Anne was a 1950 graduate of Huntington High School and graduated from Indiana University in 1954 with a B.S. degree in elementary education and received her Masters degree several years later at IPFW. She taught kindergarten for two years in Fort Wayne at the Merle J. Abbett and Southern Heights Schools. Anne continued to substitute teach in all elementary grades for many years in Huntington. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s First Community Church where she had been baptized, confirmed and married. She had taught Sunday school and directed Bible School for several years. She enjoyed reading all of her life, also keeping genealogy photo albums and traveling over all of the United States with her husband and children.
She was born on October 9, 1932 in Huntington, the daughter of Burton and Virginia (Diffendorfer) Stephan.
She was united in marriage to Dean Stonebraker on June 26, 1955 in Huntington. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Her husband survives.
They are the parents of two children: Jeffrey Dean Stonebraker and Stephanie Anne (Stonebraker) Pyle, both preceded her in death. Jeff was the Chief Public Defender for Clark County, IN and Stephanie was a civic leader and part time business instructor for several years at Huntington University.
Survivors include her husband: Dean Stonebraker of Huntington; daughter-in-law: Paula Stonebraker of Jeffersonville, IN and a step-grandson: Tyler Southard of New Albany, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Burton and Virginia Stephan, a brother: Dean B. Stephan and sister-in-law: Lois Stephan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Brooks L. Fetters officiating.
Interment will be at the St. Peter’s First Community Church Cemetery.
