Laverne Fox Johnson

Laverne Fox Johnson, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 3, 2011. Laverne was born February 25, 1923 in the Macune area of San Augustine County. She lived and worked in Beaumont most of her life and was the owner operator of Laverne’s Beauty Box for over 25 years. As a member of the Beaumont Boat Club Water Ski team, she performed throughout Southeast Texas, and Southwest Louisiana in the 1950’s and 1960’s . Laverne served the Lord as a long time member of Suburban Missionary Baptist Church. One of the things she loved most was being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Beaumont VFW Post 1806. In 2005 she moved to Huntsville, Texas to be close to her family. Laverne made many new friends by joining the Huntsville Red Hat Society and Chaplewood Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mult and Ethel Fox, five brothers, Wade Carroll, Violus, Lavelle, Eugene (Red) and four sisters, Lillian, Audrey, Areeal, and Novis. Laverne is survived by her son Ronald Steptoe and wife, Glenda, two granddaughters, Christine Steptoe and Stacy Powell, one grandson, Robby Steptoe, three great granddaughters, three great grandsons, and one great-great grandson.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM till 2:00 pm, Friday, October 7, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine, TX, on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Danny Swyden officiating.
