

Ann Ames Madden, of Barnstable, died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on February 28, 2015. She was 90 years old.
She was born in Osterville in 1925, the eldest daughter of Walcott and Josephine (Cross) Ames. She was married to William C. Madden who passed away August 2, 1982.
Ann lived in Osterville for most of her life. After getting married, she and William lived in Newton, Ma. and Weston Ma. She later moved back to Osterville and owned a home there for many years before moving to a condominium in Village Square, Osterville. She spent the last few years of her life living in Barnstable with her daughter, Peggy, and son-in-law, Craig Ashworth.
Ann graduated from Barnstable High School in 1942 and attended Cape Cod Secretarial School. After graduating from secretarial school she worked for Barnstable County National Bank until 1948. She later returned to work there for several years and became an Assistant Cashier and an Officer. She retired from the bank in 1976. She also worked at Talbots, and Mark, Fore and Strike in Osterville for several years.
Ann enjoyed skating, golf, and sailing for many years. She loved to read, cook, knit, and did beautiful needlepoint.
Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved nothing more than being with family. Her home was always a warm and welcoming gathering place for family and friends. She was the heart of the family, a second mother to many, and a gracious friend to all. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
The family is very grateful for the loving care she received from the nurses and CNAs who cared for her at home and for the services provided by Hope Hospice of Cape Cod.
Mrs. Madden leaves one son, William C. Madden and his wife, Christine (Stanbro) Madden, of Johnson City, New York, two daughters, Grace E. (Madden) Buckler of Hyannis, and Margaret Madden Ashworth and her husband, Craig Ashworth of Barnstable, Ma.
She also leaves four grandchildren, Kristen M. (Buckler) Black, of Tallahasse, Fla., Peter Buckler and his wife, Jennifer (Mitchell) Buckler, of Centerville, Ma., Sarah Elisabeth Ashworth, of Gypsum, Colorado, and William Bradford Ashworth, of St. Petersburg, Florida. She also leaves seven great children, Reese and Tori Black, and Ryan, Nicholas, Reed, Chase, and Catherine Buckler. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Walcott R. Ames and Neal F. Ames, and two sisters, Carol E. (Ames) Beggs and Margaret Louise (Ames) Nickerson.
Visiting hours will be held at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St. Hyannis, Ma. on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A service in her memory will be held the following day, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
