Born on August 7, 1951, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Peter cherished life and found great joy in nature. Whether fishing, spending time on the water, cultivating his garden, or tending to his animals, he found peace and fulfillment in the world around him. He especially enjoyed sharing moments with his grandchildren, whose laughter and presence brought warmth and pride.
Peter worked as a landscaper, founding Peter and Sons Landscaping, where he enjoyed working outdoors and often alongside his sons. Through his work, he showed a commitment to his craft and a love for creating beautiful spaces.
On July 17, 1976, Peter married Theresa Brandao, the love of his life and his greatest source of happiness. Their lifelong partnership was filled with love, laughter, and family—a bond that was unbreakable, enduring even beyond Theresa’s passing. She was his everything, and their love transcended the years they spent together, sustaining him even after her passing. Now, they are reunited in the afterlife, their souls forever connected.
Peter is survived by his loving children: Buenaventura "Peter" Rivera II, Teresa Knight, Matthew Rivera, and Joshua Rivera. He was a cherished grandfather to Jaylynn Rivera, Selena Knight, Atiya Rivera, Olivia Rivera, Matthew Rivera Jr., Noah Rivera, Lennox Rivera, Jemma Rivera, and Joshua Rivera Jr., each of whom he treasured.
Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa; his parents, Nicholas Garcia de Rivera and Arturo Rivera; and ten siblings. He is survived by his siblings Conchita Rivera Morales, Jesus Rivera, Luz Rivera, Noemi Rivera, Efrain Rivera, Haydee Rivera, Hernan Rivera, Arturo Rivera, Nicholas Rivera and Ruth Rivera.
His visits to Puerto Rico remained especially dear to him, a place where he felt peace and serenity and a deep connection to his roots. He loved sharing his Puerto Rican culture with his family, especially through language and food.
