

DENNIS — Catherine McHugh died Saturday afternoon at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by her four children and their spouses. Remembered for her sharp wit and refusal to suffer fools gladly, she will be missed by all.
Born in 1934 to Francis and Mabel Frazier Burke, Billie was raised in Jamaica Plain, MA. Along with her four brothers, Frannie, Bob, Jerry and Lawrence, all now deceased; she attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. In 1954, she married Phillip McHugh and was predeceased by him in 1991. During their years together, she raised four children, (Kathleen McHugh, John McHugh, Alicia Gonsalves, and Pamela Troutman) in Needham and Cape Cod.
Throughout her life she worked at various secretarial jobs most notably at Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich for the past 18 years. Known for her especially beautiful visage during her youth, she was a particularly avid reader, a student of classical piano and a lover of gardening.
In addition to her children, Catherine leaves grandchildren, Ronnie, Jill, Brienne, Zachary, Thomas, Matthew, and Kate; as well as great-grandchildren, Maddie, Nicholas, and Quinn.
A Funeral Mass will be held for her at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16 at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster. No calling hours.
