Clifford Hagberg, born on January 26, 1952, in Northampton, Massachusetts, passed away on October 8, 2025, at the age of 73. Clifford was the son of the late Clifford L Hagberg and Nancy (Hinckley) Hagberg. He grew up in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of Barnstable High School, where he was a member of the debate team and drama club. He continued his education at Boston University where an encounter with Aerosmith became one of his favorite stories. A long-time resident of West Barnstable, Cliff was known for his larger-than-life personality and his charismatic, humorous, and argumentative nature.
Cliff was a man of many interests and talents. He was an accomplished musician who loved playing the guitar alone or with friends. A self-proclaimed master chef, he would boast about his favorite recipes with ingredients he never measured. He couldn’t understand why his grandchildren didn’t appreciate the whole pieces of tomatoes in his fabulous sauce. As loud as he could be, he was never far from a book and had a lifelong passion for knowledge and storytelling. He loved telling his stories on his blog, Cliff’s Notes, that he eventually published. Cliff performed at the Barnstable Comedy Club in the 1980s, where he received awards for his performances. At one point he played a wizard and had to learn magic tricks. He was a quick study and became quite the entertainer for his daughters and their cousins and friends. Known for his strong opinions, he appreciated the art of debate from his high school days and enjoyed socializing with friends over great music and good drinks.
Cliff adored his daughters with his former wife Janice (Beattie) Hagberg of Centerville, Massachusetts: Carrie and her husband Steve Schoenholtz of Wilmington, Massachusetts, and Jamie and her husband Matt Bartz of Brewster, Massachusetts. He was also a proud grandfather to Ethan Clifford Schoenholtz, Jacob Schoenholtz, Emma Bartz, and Lucy Bartz. He is survived by his former partner Louise Knops-Lloyd and her sons George and Alex Lloyd, as well as his siblings, Jody (Hagberg) Vargas of Miami, Florida, Gary Hagberg of Hyannis, Massachusetts, Jill (Hagberg) Twombly of Carlsbad, California, and Wendy (Hagberg) Walther of Brewster, Massachusetts, as well as nieces and nephews and many friends and associates.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Cliff's name to a charity of your choice.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 2nd, from 10 AM to 12 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. To share a memory or for online condolences, please visit https://www.doanebealameshyannis.com/.
