David Bianco passed peacefully in his sleep on February 15th. During his too brief life, Dave touched the hearts of many with his infectious smile, his generosity, his multiple skills, and his devotion to his daughter.
Dave was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on January 10, 1968 to Elodia J. Coto Re Dondo, from Costa Rica, and Salvatore A. Bianco from New York. He grew up in Ship Bottom, New Jersey, on Long Beach Island, where he worked in his parent’s deli and became a champion surfer.
During his high school years Dave developed his love for live music. He became a talented drummer and used his self-taught skills to make connections at small venues on the Jersey shore. Those connections, along with his knowledge and charisma, led to his early career as drum technician for the bands Blues Traveler and The Allman Brothers.
During his twenties and thirties Dave lived in Eugene, Oregon. Many of his friends from New Jersey also moved there, forming a special group with strong-rooted bonds. His favorite activity each year was the Oregon Country Fair, where he was part of the construction crew. After working for a week setting up the fair, Dave would help run a kitchen and then camp out under the stars with hundreds of friends.
Dave was handy from a young age and loved woodworking. He crafted hand drums, skateboards and body boards, and made things from reclaimed wood before that became trendy. Dave could fix anything broken with whatever tools and materials were available. He continued to hone his carpentry skills and worked for several local builders and cabinet shops in later years.
Dave’s greatest joy was his daughter, Madeline. He was a dedicated father, always ready to be of help. He loved to spend weekends in Wellfleet, enjoying the dunes and surfing with Madeline. Dave was also deeply involved with and loving towards Madeline’s half-brothers, becoming a third parent committed to raising three children. He was present with a smile at every family gathering and sports event, where his joyful laugh and exuberant cheering would be the loudest. In addition to Madeline, Dave is survived by his mother and his older sister Nancy, who live in Florida.
Visitation will be held at Doane Beal & Ames, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1. In lieu of flowers, Madeline would appreciate help paying for funeral costs through her GoFundMe account, https://gofund.me/2d041eae.
Godspeed Dave, let your soul shine.
