Edith Richards died peacefully on February 11, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family

Edith was born September 16, 1915 in West Springfield, Massachusetts to Cordelia Aubrey and Ambrose Lamica. She moved to Florence at the age of five and attended Northampton schools. Edith graduated from Northampton High School in 1933 and from the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She worked at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for 44 years, retiring on December 31, 1980. Her roles included Night Nursing Supervisor and Head of Admitting. During her career she lived in Northampton, Hadley and Belchertown. In 1995 Edith married Prescott Langdon Richards, a Northampton native and former elementary and high school classmate, and moved to Cape Cod. Lang died in 2001.

During her life Edith was an active stamp collector, an avid knitter (contributing many sweaters to church fundraising events), grew award winning roses and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, MA, The Beach Club in Centerville, MA and The Cummaquid Golf Club in Cummaquid, MA.

She leaves three stepsons, John Richards of New York City, Jeffrey Richards of Ottawa, Canada and Bruce Richards of Cos Cob, CT/Barnstable, MA, and their wives Lynne, April and Janice. Her very large extended family includes seven step grandchildren (Clinton, Clifford, Kimberly, Alexander, Caroline, Dawson and Shiloh), two step great grandchildren (Cole and Eden), twenty five nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday February 14, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Chapel 32 Summer St.(Off 6A) Yarmouthport, at 10am. Burial to follow at Lothrop Hill Cemetery Barnstable. Relatives and friends are kindly invited
