

Elizabeth Anna (Kearney) Mendes “Betty”, 84, of Marstons Mills, MA entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, June 29, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the adored wife of 66 years to James Mendes Sr.
Betty was born and raised in Marstons Mills, the daughter of the late Oscar Davis and Dorothy (Wilson) Kearney. She was an expert seamstress and started learning her craft in the 7th grade. Her first job was Hall Cleaners. From there She went on to own and operated Bassett Lane Cleaners in Hyannis along with her husband. After selling her business, she worked for Spartan Cleaners until her retirement. She was a devoted member of Zion Union Church in Hyannis for over 40 years where she served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Treasurer, Choir Member and Mother.
Betty, known by her family as “Mimi” was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She absolutely loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed family vacations.
Betty is predeceased by her siblings Michael, Paul, Barbara, Rosemary and Bruce Kearney. In addition to her husband James, she is survived by her cherished children Esther Denise Moore (Fred) of St. Petersburg, FL, Janise Mendes (Eugene) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Robin Santiago (Bruce) of Wareham, MA, Sherrie Donalson (Sammy) of Hyannis, MA, James Mendes, Jr. (Michelle) of Hyannis, MA, Elaina Mendes (Robert “Shorty”) of Hyannis, MA and Crystal Reed (Quincy) of Douglasville, GA.; her loving sisters and brother Joyce Maddox of GA; Yvonne Kearney of CT and Darrin Smith of CT; her 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will take place Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10 am -12 noon at Zion Union Church, 805 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601 followed by a 12 noon service. Private cremation to follow.
