Stratford – Jeanne K. Schofield, 87, of Yarmouth Port, MA died December 9, 2017 after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Alfred J. Schofield.
Jeanne was born in New York City to the late Adam and Anne Kohlhepp and grew up in the Kingsbridge, Bronx NY. Her childhood and teenage years were enriched by a diverse group of friends and treasured memories of New York City. Jeanne graduated from Walton High School—with an academic degree and a slew of dance contest trophies. She earned an accounting degree from Walter Hervy Junior College in Manhattan. While attending college she met and fell in love with Alfred Schofield. They married at Asbury Church in Crestwood NY in 1952, where they remained active for many years.
She and Al raised her family in Ardsley, New York and retired from Ciba-Geigy as an executive secretary. They moved to Cape Cod in 1992.
Jeanne loved outdoor recreation as an expert skier and an avid golfer. She and Al often hiked and camped in the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Jeanne loved to travel –taking the family on several cross-country trips and later traveling the world with Al—always going off the beaten path to explore natural wonders and connect with people from different cultures.
Jeanne adored her “three redheads” as youngsters and enjoyed a fun and loving relationship with them and their families as adults. She is survived by her children--sons David and his wife Lynn of Ossining, NY, Alfred Peter and his wife Catherine of West Barnstable; and daughter Cindy of Milford, CT; six grandchildren—Daniel and his wife Melisa, Kaitlin and her husband Jon, Adam, Jacob, Alfred and Kevin—of whom she was enormously proud; her brother Adam John Kohlhepp and nephews Adam and Andrew.
A private burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorial contributions may be sent to Cape Cod Times Needy Fund, P.O. Box 804, Hyannis, MA 02601 (needyfund.org)
