

Born on July 7, 1921 in Chatham, MA, she was one of the ten children of the late Rudolph and Margaret (Howes) Farrenkopf. She attended Chatham schools.
Joan proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While in the service, she met her lifelong love, Paul E. Bell, a Marine. They were married on December 22, 1946 in Washington, D.C.
She devoted much of her life to her family and caring for her daughter, Kathleen. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida. Later in life, Joan was content to be at home with her crossword puzzles and her daily newspaper.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Paul E. Bell and her son, Paul E. Bell, Jr.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Bell of Barnstable, Sharon Bell of Centerville, Susan Pereira and her husband, Michael of Centerville; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and her brother, Carroll Farrenkopf and his wife, Gail of Chatham.
Friends may call from 3-6 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street in Hyannis. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
